Atlas Shrugged Movie Producer Kaslow: Ayn Rand’s Themes Still Resonate

Harmon Kaslow, co-producer of the movie “Atlas Shrugged Part II,” hopes that viewers realize the values of Ayn Rand are still meaningful.

The movie starts in theaters Oct. 12 and is based on the book of the same name, excluding “Part II” of course, written by Rand in 1957.

Story continues below.

“The film is about learning to love your life, that you shouldn’t sacrifice your personal values, and that we should respect the rights of the individual against government socialization,” Kaslow tells John Bachman of Newsmax.TV.

“Those themes are all of the things that we’re experiencing today in the news. The government has great intentions in imposing policy and regulation. But a lot of these things backfire and have very detrimental effects on our economy and our standard of living.”

The movie offers viewers a chance to ponder these ideas and hopefully avoid the perils of excessive government intervention, Kaslow says.

Rand’s ideas have definitely stood the test of time, he believes. Having immigrated to the United States from Russia, she had a broad perspective of her new country.

“It was at a time after the New Deal policies had been implemented. She wrote the book as a warning, and the warning was not heeded too well by the people in power,” Kaslow maintains.

“And here we are now 50 years later seeing a lot of the themes, a lot of the things that she wrote about actually happening before our very eyes. So what was intended to be a warning has now turned out to be the very headlines in the news that we hear and read about every day.”
