Dr. Seuss, the rhyming wordsmith, revered by both children and adults alike, is remembered today on the 107th anniversary of his birth in a celebration designated the “Read Across America Day.”
In celebration of the man who spun words into magic on the page, Michelle Obama will be reading Seuss favorites at the Library of Congress.
In memory of the good Dr., here are five of our favorite quotes from his classic children’s books:
1."Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind."
2. "Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple."
3. "I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do. And that enables you to laugh at life’s realities."
4. "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can streer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go …You'll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You'll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life's a Great Balancing Act."
5. "Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You."
