Al Gore, former vice president and Nobel Peace Prize winner, together with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, often makes his case through his many Al Gore global warming warnings.
Here are eight of his classic quotes on climate change:
1. “Here is the truth: The Earth is round; Saddam Hussein did not attack us on 9/11; Elvis is dead; Obama was born in the United States; and the climate crisis is real,” the former vice president once cleverly pointed out.

2. “Many scientists are now warning that we are moving closer to several tipping points that could — within as little as 10 years — make it impossible for us to avoid irretrievable damage to the planet’s habitability for human civilization,” Gore said in a speech at NYU Law School in 2006.
3. Gore told a German audience in 2008 that “the entire North polarized cap will disappear in five years.” It’s still there, and some scientists reported the Arctic ice cap getting larger a few years later.
4. The same year, an Al Gore gave a global warming message to an audience in Washington, D.C.: “The survival of the United States of America as we know it is at risk. And even more — if more should be required — the future of human civilization is at stake.”
5. “The extreme weather events and the knock-on effects with the stronger ocean-based storms, the bigger downpours, more floods, mudslides, the saturation of that hillside in Snohomish County (Washington), for example — these things are way more common now, because the extremes are more extreme and they are more frequent,” he said in response to critics in April.

6. “You see that pale, blue dot?” Gore asks about the planet Earth in “An Inconvenient Truth,” a 2006 documentary. “That's us. Everything that has ever happened in all of human history, has happened on that pixel. All the triumphs and all the tragedies, all the wars, all the famines, all the major advances... it's our only home. And that is what is at stake, our ability to live on planet Earth, to have a future as a civilization. I believe this is a moral issue, it is your time to seize this issue, it is our time to rise again to secure our future.”
7. “Future generations may well have occasion to ask themselves, ‘What were our parents thinking? Why didn't they wake up when they had a chance?’ We have to hear that question from them, now,” he notes in the same Academy Award-winning documentary.
8. “Ultimately, we are going to win this thing,” Gore told thousands of enthusiastic people during a 2014 speech in Hawaii. It requires changes “beyond our routine,” he explained.
“I know that we are capable of that,” he assured in a break of optimism. “Our way of life is at stake, our grandchildren are at stake, the future of civilization is at stake.”
