Musical jack of all trades Barry Manilow has released his first album of new songs since 2001, entitled “15 Minutes.”
Today, the 67-year-old “Mandy” singer made an appearance on “Good Morning America” to promote the rock-oriented album, whose songs chronicle the ups and downs of a fictitious pop star.
Manilow says that watching young, talented performers like Britney Spears struggle with the pressures of fame inspired him to write new material following a decade-long period of releasing only greatest hits albums.
Manilow may have looked to current young stars for inspiration, but, the singer said, “I realized halfway through, I was writing . . . about myself.” The artist says that the album, available in stores today, questions the price of fame.
