Say "Utah" and most people think of Salt Lake City. While Salt Lake is indeed the biggest city in the state, there are other good-sized towns, too.

Here are the 10 biggest cities in Utah:

1. Salt Lake City (population 186, 440)
Located in the north-central part of the state, Salt Lake City is both the county seat and the state capital. The city is named after its proximity to the Great Salt Lake. The 2010 census noted a population increase of just under 3 percent from 2000.

2. West Valley City (population 129,480)
A mere seven miles from Salt Lake City, West Valley City is part of the larger metropolitan area. Between 2000 and 2010, the city’s population grew by almost 19 percent.

3. Provo (population 112,488)
Located approximately 43 miles from Salt Lake City, Provo is the largest city in the Provo-Orem metropolitan area and is considered the happiest city in the U.S., according to Today Health. The population increased by 7 percent between 2000 and 2010.

4. West Jordan (population 103,712)
While West Jordan is still only the fourth-largest city in Utah, the population increased by a whopping 51 percent between 2000 and 2010. The suburb is located about 13 miles from Salt Lake City.

5. Orem (population 88,328)
Located about 45 miles south of Salt Lake City, Orem is one of the major cities in the Provo-Orem metropolitan area. The population increased by almost 5 percent between 2000 and 2010.

6. Sandy (population 87,461)
Sandy is one of the few big cities in Utah that saw a population decrease, dropping a little more than 1 percent between 2000 and2010. Sandy is a suburb of Salt Lake City, located about 15 miles from the city center.

7. Ogden (population 82,825)
Ogden is about 40 miles from Salt Lake City, near Interstate 84 in the eastern portion of the state. The 2010 census showed a population increase of over 7 percent.

8. St. George (population 72, 897)
Like West Jordan, St. George experienced explosive growth in the years prior to the 2010 census, which showed a population increase of more than 46 percent. St. George is located in the southwestern part of the state, approximately 315 miles from Salt Lake City.

9. Layton (population 67,311)
Although Layton is only about 21 miles from Salt Lake City, it is considered part of the Ogden-Clearfield metropolitan area. The population grew by 15 percent between 2000 and 2010.

10. Taylorsville (population 58,652)
This suburban community is located only eight miles from Salt Lake City and is included in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The 2010 census showed a population growth of just over 2 percent.
