Actress Maureen O’Hara had an accomplished career, which began at a very young age as a child in Ireland and then lead to a career filled with awards and other accolades as an adult.

While a teenager she enrolled in Dublin's prestigious Abbey Theatre School where she studied drama and music. When O’Hara graduated in 1937 she was offered a lead role with the Abbey Players, but declined.

Instead she decided to try her hand at film acting. She soon moved to London and screen tested for an English feature, signing her first movie contract with RKO studios in 1939.

From there her career took off and she became a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. She has starred along many notable leading men and worked with legendary directors, such as John Ford.

Throughout her lifetime she is credited with performing in 65 movies, according to Biography.com.

  • O’Hara’s most recent honor came in 2015 from the Academy Awards. She was given an honorary award — a statuette for lifetime achievement.
  • In 1960, she earned her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
  • O’Hara was given a Bambi Award for third place “Best Actress, International” for her work in the film “Baghdad.”
  • In 1963, the actress was nominated for a Golden Laurel for Top Female Comedic Performance for “Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation.” She brought home fifth place that year.
  • In 1964, O’Hara was nominated for a Golden Laurel for Top Female Star.
  • O’Hara won a Golden Boot Award in 1991. The award is given to performers, stunt people, producers, and directors who further the tradition of the Western on film and in television. They were once considered the Academy Awards of Western films.
  • The British Film Institute recognized O’Hara in 1993 with a BFI Fellowship.
  • In 2002, the Seattle Film Critics Awards gave her a Living Treasure Award.
  • Irish Film and Television Awards honored O’Hara in 2004 with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • CinEuphoria honored her in 2011 with an honorary career award.
