Donald Trump blames Hillary Clinton for the rise of the Islamic State and the civil war in Syria — and says she's responsible for the killings of "hundreds of thousands of people with her stupidity."
In an 14-minute interview with the GOP presidential primary front-runner on
"Fox News Sunday," Trump was noting his
lead in a head-to-head match with the Democratic presidential primary front-runner when he began castigating her.
"She is the one that caused all this problem with her stupid policies," he railed. "You look at what she did with Libya, what she did with Syria. Look at Egypt, what happened with Egypt, a total mess. They don't back — we don't back any of our allies."
"You look, she was truly, if not, one of the worst secretary of states in the history of the country," he continued. "She talks about me being dangerous; she's killed hundreds of thousands of people with her stupidity."
Host Chris Wallace then pressed Trump about the claim.
"What do you mean, 'hundreds of thousands?'" Wallace asked.
"She was secretary of state. [Barack] Obama was president, the team," Trump responded. "Two real geniuses."
Last September,
The New York Times reported 200,000 people had at that point died in the Syrian civil war.
Politico notes Clinton, when she served as a member of Obama's national security team, had argued for arming moderate rebel groups in Syria.
In his "Fox News Sunday" interview, Trump also blasted Clinton for her part in the deadly 2012 attacks on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
"Look at Benghazi, our ambassador," he said. "He wired her five or six hundred times asking for help. She'll take her friend's call every time. Hillary Clinton doesn't have the judgment. She doesn't have the strength or the stamina to be president. She will be a terrible president. And I think I'll win."
