Poll: Cruz Leads Trump By 12 Points in Texas

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has a double-digit edge in his home state over GOP presidential primary front-runner Donald Trump ahead of the Super Tuesday voting March 1, a new poll shows.

The Texas Pulse/Statesman survey puts Cruz 12 points ahead of Trump among likely Republican voters.

Here's the breakdown:
  • Cruz: 38 percent
  • Trump: 26 percent
  • Florida Sen. Marco Rubio: 13 percent
  • Ohio Gov. John Kasich: 7 percent
  • Retired Pediatric Neurosurgeon Ben Carson: 6 percent
  • Not sure: 7 percent
On the Democratic side, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, with 66 percent support, has a crushing 40-point lead over Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has 26 percent support, the poll shows.

The survey gives Cruz his best edge in recent polling.

A Dixie Strategies Poll also released Wednesday shows Cruz ahead of the real estate billionaire by more than 8 percentage points statewide.

An Emerson College survey shows Cruz with 29 percent support and Trump with 28 percent.
