Ted Cruz Releases 'Invasion' Ad

(Cruz campaign ad/"Invasion")

By    |   Tuesday, 05 January 2016 11:30 AM EST

As Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump gallivants through New Hampshire and other early voting states to rouse audiences on the issue of illegal immigration, the billionaire has taken to calling Ted Cruz a "copycat" as the Texas senator released his first major campaign ad in the granite state entitled, "Invasion" — a dramatic ad which seeks to strengthen his border security credentials, The Texas Tribune reports.

Elaborating on his remarks from the fourth GOP debate when he discussed what he described as the overlooked impact of illegal immigration on American jobs, the 60-second spot features men and women dressed in business clothes desperately running across the border.

"The politics of it would be very, very different if a bunch of lawyers or bankers were coming across the Rio Grande . . . or if a bunch of people with journalism degrees were coming over and driving down the wages in the press," Cruz said in the ad.

"Then we would see stories about the economic calamity that is befalling our nation."

Apart from showing men and women in business attire, the ad also flashes Cruz's closest competition in the Granite State, Sen. Marco Rubio, whom Cruz has persistently ripped for his involvement in immigration reform efforts since 2013.

The Texas Tribune notes that Cruz's campaign has previously aired minor spots in New Hampshire, with one that aired during the first GOP debate in September. However, "Invasion" is the first major ad the campaign has released just ahead of the Feb. 9 primary election.

According to Cruz's campaign, the ad is set to air across the Granite State on Tuesday.
