Rep. Adam Schiff on Sunday called North Korea's latest nuclear missile test "a grave threat" to the United States "and one we will have to respond to."
In an interview on CNN's "State of the Union," the California Democrat said it's still unclear if Pyongyang's new missile test was a hydrogen bomb.
"It's certainly a much more powerful bomb than they've tested before… 6-10 times more than they've tested in the past," he said, adding: "It certainly could be [a hydrogen] bomb."
He said he's sure, however, even if the latest test wasn't a fusion device, it shows North Korea will have that capability during the Trump administration.
"The reality is it is a grave threat to the United State and it is one we will have to respond to," he declared.
"It underscores the heightened importance to getting China to work with us more aggressively to cut off trade to North Korea," Schiff added, saying there needs also to be "secondary sanctions" on other countries that trade with North Korea.
"We ought to be aiming for a cessation of these programs… and then hopefully that will lead to negotiations to roll back these programs," he said, calling the latest testing, however, "certainly another very disturbing sign."
