Former President Bill Clinton told a crowd of his wife's supporters he sometimes wishes they weren't married — because then he could say whatever he wants.
"Sometimes when I am on a stage like this, I wish that we weren't married," the former president said in New Hampshire on Monday night, according to the New York Daily News, referring to the tweet of a journalist on the scene.
"Then I could say what I think."
Before introducing the former secretary of state – who's the underdog in the nomination contest in the Granite State — the former commander-in-chief added: "I don't mean that in a negative way. I am happy."
Bill Clinton has kept a relatively low profile through the most of the campaign, but has been stumping hard in New Hampshire, criticizing the front-running Sen. Bernie Sanders for his
"sexist" attacks on the campaign trail.
