Hillary Clinton called the New York and New Jersey attacks "bombings" before responding to criticism of Donald Trump’s own use of the term "bomb," according to an ABC news transcript; yet, CNN edited out Clinton’s opening sentence referencing "bombings" in its breaking news coverage Saturday night, as reported by The Hill.
"I’ve been briefed about bombings in New York and New Jersey, and the attacks in Minnesota," Clinton said before CNN’s coverage picked up her statement with the following remarks:
"Obviously, we need to do everything we can to support our first responders, also to pray for the victims," Clinton said. "We have to let this investigation unfold. We’ve been in touch with various officials, including the mayor’s office in New York, to learn what they are discovering as they conduct this investigation. And I’ll have more to say about it when we actually know the facts."
A reporter then asked for Clinton’s response of Trump’s calling the explosion a "bomb."
"Well, I think it’s important to know the facts about any incident like this," Clinton responded. "That’s why it’s critical to support the first responders, the investigators who are looking into it, trying to determine what did happen. I think it is always wiser to wait until you have information before making conclusions."
Media was quick to criticize Trump for his use of the term "bomb," yet CNN’s coverage edited out Clinton’s own use of the term, "in a attempt to show contrast between the temperament of the two candidates," as The Hill’s Joe Concha wrote Sunday.
