Doctor Cleared of Ebola Virus Feeling Better

Sunday, 05 October 2014 03:21 PM EDT

Officials at a Massachusetts hospital say a doctor admitted this weekend for an apparent respiratory infection after having survived the Ebola virus is in stable condition and feeling better, but still has a fever and cough.

Dr. Richard Sacra remained at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester on Sunday in isolation as a precaution. He was admitted Saturday and is being treated for an upper respiratory infection that doctors believe is not related to Ebola.

Hospital officials said Sunday that they expect results of Ebola testing on Sacra within the next two days.

Sacra, of Holden, returned to Massachusetts on Sept. 25 after weeks of Ebola treatment at an Omaha, Nebraska, hospital. He spent much of the last two decades in Liberia in Africa, working with a missionary group.
