Talk radio host Glenn Beck says
God allowed Justice Antonin Scalia to die less than nine months before a presidential election to wake up the American people about the danger of losing their liberties.
Beck was visiting Boston and listening in when one of his co-hosts, Pat Gray, said on Tuesday he was surprised God didn't allow Scalia to survive until a Republican president was elected.
Beck called the show and told Gray that he initially had the same thought, then realized God's plan was actually to wake people up.
"I took them out of the game show moment and woke enough of them up to say, look at how close your liberty is to being lost," Beck said of his belief is what God was telling the country. "You now have lost your liberty. You replace one guy and you now have 5-4 decisions in the other direction."
Americans need to elect someone who will appoint someone who will save those liberties by appointing a justice who reveres the Constitution, Beck added.
"The Constitution is hanging by a thread," Beck said. "That thread has just been cut, and the only way that we survive now is if we have a true constitutionalist."
Beck compared the incident to Hurricane Sandy in 2012. He had been scheduled to campaign with Mitt Romney until the storm made them unable to get flights.
"And then they were walking on the beach like two lovers, and I thought to myself, 'Thank you, Lord. Thanks for that,'" Beck said.
