Trump's Lone Donor at Goldman Sachs Said to Be Placed on Leave

Trump's Lone Donor at Goldman Sachs Said to Be Placed on Leave

Monday, 29 February 2016 08:40 PM EST

Luke Thorburn, the only Goldman Sachs Group Inc. employee who donated to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in the second half of last year, has been placed on administrative leave, according to a person with knowledge of the decision.

His name is on a recent application to trademark "Make Christianity Great Again," federal records show. Red and blue hats with that slogan, a devout version of Trump's "Make America Great Again," are being sold online for $19.99 each.

When Goldman Sachs asked Thorburn about the endeavor, after he and the bank were included in a New York Times article last week about Trump, his answers were inconsistent, said the person, who asked not to be identified discussing personnel. The newspaper reported on his leave earlier Monday.

Thorburn, a wealth-management associate, didn’t immediately return messages on LinkedIn.

He gave Trump's campaign $534.58 in September, according to Federal Election Commission records, choosing the Republican fron-trunner at a firm where fellow employees threw hundreds of thousands of dollars at former Florida Governor Jeb Bush's campaign. Marco Rubio, a senator from that state, is now their preferred candidate.
