On the heels of a damning tape recording in which Donald Trump made lewd comments about women, Hillary Clinton has soared to a 14-point national lead in a two-way matchup, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released Monday.
The results:
- Clinton: 52 percent
- Trump: 38 percent
When the two independent candidates are included, Clinton's lead is reduced to 11 points:
- Clinton: 46 percent;
- Trump: 35 percent;
- Gary Johnson: 9 percent;
- Jill Stein: 2 percent.
According to the survey, 52 percent of the 500 people surveyed said the audiotape should be an issue heading into the election, while 42 percent said it should not.
Further, 41 percent said Trump's comments were "completely unacceptable" vs. 31 percent who said they were "typical" of how men talk to each other in private, according to the poll.
The survey, carried out over the weekend but prior to Sunday night's debate, polled 500 registered voters and has a margin of error of +/- 4.4 percent.
