Republicans who've held back on their support of Donald Trump are now emerging at the eleventh-hour to support him, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee says.
"Polls are showing Hillary Clinton's wide lead collapsing and Donald Trump pulling even or ahead. That would be no surprise considering the stunning FBI news about Hillary," Huckabee said Monday on his Facebook page, referring to the FBI's reopening of the Clinton email probe.
"But hold the phone: these polls were all taken before that was announced on Friday. It will be interesting to see the polls once that news has circulated …
"Trump's surge and Hillary's fall in these polls can actually be chalked up to several non-FBI factors: Reluctant Republicans are finally waking up to what a Hillary presidency would mean and rallying to Trump, independents are breaking for Trump … [and] he's out campaigning like a house afire …"
Huckabee, who has twice run for the GOP presidential nomination, adds that pollsters who continually say Clinton is leading in the presidential race should now start "trying to salvage their reputations by not oversampling Democrats by up to 14 points."
