Former Maryland Gov. Democrat Martin O'Malley is dropping out of the race for the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday after a poor showing in the Iowa caucuses.
O'Malley, who also was Baltimore mayor, won no votes in the early showing of the caucuses,
Politico reports. He was expected to suspend his campaign later Tuesday.
He consistently polled in the low single digits in both national and state surveys.
Shortly after announcing his campaign last May, O'Malley railed against the Democratic establishment — charging that the debate schedule was being developed to protect front-runner Hillary Clinton.
The former governor ran a strong campaign in Iowa, but he was never able to gain traction.
O'Malley finished
at 3 percent in the final Iowa Poll on Saturday before the caucuses. He was down 1 percent from the previous month.
