Multiple news outlets have identified the suspect in Tuesday's terror attack in New York City as 29-year-old Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov from Tampa, Florida.

Officials confirmed the suspect was a 29-year-old man at a press conference Tuesday, but would not identify him.

Fox News reported the man was of Middle Eastern background and shouted "Allahu akbar!" which means "Allah is the greatest!" in Arabic.

NBC News and CNN reported he is from Uzbekistan and entered the United States in 2010.

That, combined with the fact the suspect appeared to purposely drive his rented pickup truck into a group of pedestrians and bicycle riders, led to authorities labeling the event a terrorist attack.

At least eight people were killed and at least a dozen more injured.
