Conservative House Freedom Caucus member Trent Franks – who
last month proposed a combined GOP presidential ticket of Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio – has now narrowed his support solely for the surging Texas lawmaker.
In a statement, the Arizona congressman hinted at the recent stumbles of Florida's Rubio,
The Hill reports.
"Two weeks ago I urged Senators Cruz and Rubio to unite and present our Party with a combined ticket that would bring our conservative cause together in the primary election, and our nation together in the general election," Franks said, The Hill reports.
"While that did not happen, the results of the last two weeks make clear that the most reliable conservative with the best chance to win is Ted Cruz."
A make-or-break primary race in Rubio's home state comes Tuesday, with 99 delegates at stake in the winner-take-all contest, but polls in the Sunshine State
show Rubio lagging behind front-runner Donald Trump.
"He can win our party’s nomination and even more importantly, can beat Hillary Clinton," Franks said of Cruz.
