They’re the three dreaded words no one wants to hear: “You have cancer.” One in every three Americans will hear those words in his or her lifetime, which can spark feelings of fear, panic, and desperation, and lead to rash decisions about treatment and care.

But a new book — the “Cancer Survival Guide,” by award-winning Newsmax Health reporter Charlotte Libov — offers life-saving advice on the latest in new therapies and even prevention. Published by Humanix Books, the new publication is a pragmatic how-to guide to cancer recovery that provides details and information on the most up-to-date medical findings how to combat the nation’s No. 2 killer.

In an interview with "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth, Libov explained that advances in cancer research have made the disease a manageable condition, with more Americans living with cancer today than dying from it each year.

“The word cancer strikes at the heart of everybody and people think automatically it’s a death sentence…but it’s not,” she noted.

But new advances in immunotherapy and gene therapy — designed to harness the body’s immune system to fight cancer — are potent new weapons in the war on cancer that are already helping patients, she added.

Case in point: Former President Jimmy Carter, who revealed last month that he is cancer-free after just several months of treatment with the new immunologic drug Keytruda and a novel form of radiation for brain cancer.

“They are tremendous strides, I mean they are just a leap into the future,” Libov said of the new generation of cancer therapies.

“When I used to talk to cancer experts when I first started research the book, they used to say we are on the frontier, we are on the cusp. And now we see with people like Jimmy Carter getting treatment that the future is here. Immunotherapy and building up on our knowledge of genetics [have] just made this so much more tremendously possible.”

Like Humanix Books’ past publications — the No. 1 New York Times best-selling “ObamaCare Survival Guide” and “DaVinci’s Baby Boomer Survival Guide” — the “Cancer Survival Guide” is packed with actionable advice — informed by world-renowned cancer specialists — that lead readers through the most crucial healthcare decisions cancer patients will ever make.

Among the book’s detailed sections:

• What cancer is, its symptoms and causes, and how it affects the body.
• The major forms of cancer including statistics on gender, age, culture, and prognosis.
• How to choose the right doctor based on your diagnosis.
• Creating a personal healthcare record to ensure that no detail is left to chance.
• The conventional and alternative treatments available, and what side effects to expect.
• Physical and emotional coping strategies, before, during, and after treatment.
• How to navigate life after cancer and the future of cancer research.

The book will be in stores February 2, 2016, will also be available online through Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
