FreedomWorks to Congress: Pepper Bernanke With Questions

By    |   Wednesday, 02 March 2011 01:33 PM EST

The tea party group FreedomWorks is frustrated with Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s refusal to answer questions in a manner it deems clear during congressional testimony.

So FreedomWorks urges congressmen to use a "tag team" approach to force clear answers from the Fed chief, The Hill reports.

In a confidential memo sent to legislative directors on Capitol Hill, FreedomWorks portrays Bernanke as evasive and someone who "runs out the clock" on tough questions with "vague declarations and empty assurances."

The memo obtained by The Hill says, "Mr. Bernanke can be seemingly forthcoming without actually responding to the specific question.

"He will offer concisely worded explanations with pained earnestness, finally resorting to repeated declarations that the Federal Open Market Committee will be 'extremely vigilant' and 'very careful' in gauging when to withdraw excess monetary stimulus."
