President Barack Obama’s money machine continues to pull in the cash, raising $66 million in the fourth quarter in 2011: $42 million is for his campaign and $24 million for the Democratic National Committee,
The Washington Post reported.
The president’s fundraising prowess over GOP rivals continued in the fourth quarter. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney raised $24 million in the fourth quarter; Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, $13 million; and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich pulled in $9 million, according to the Post.
Overall, Obama has raised nearly $141 million for his re-election effort. The amount is greater than the $132.5 million President George W. Bush raised in 2003, the Post reported.
