Dig Deep for Dinner With Obama: $38,500 a Plate

By    |   Thursday, 07 April 2011 03:08 PM EDT

President Barack Obama’s supporters are being asked to really put their money where their mouths are: Tickets for a fundraising dinner this month in San Francisco are going for $35,800. And that’s a person, not per couple.

“There’s a little bit of sticker shock,” one Democrat conceded to the San Francisco Chronicle’s political blog.

The San Francisco Obama Victory Fund dinner on April 20 is part of the president’s 2012 re-election campaign kickoff. Obama also will visit Los Angeles and Reno, Nev., as well as the Bay Area, where his schedule includes a jobs event on the day of the pricey fundraiser.

The exclusive dinner is set for the home of Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of salesforce.com, and is limited to 60 high-end donors. Prospective guests are being told that Obama will visit each table and speak individually to each person, and a photographer will take pictures.

Those who can’t pony up the $35,800 for the San Francisco dinner can take heart: Tickets for a fund-raising breakfast the next morning at L.A.’s St. Regis Hotel go for $5,000 and $10,000. The higher-priced ticket gets you a photo with Obama.

Tickets for a “low-dollar” event on at the Masonic Temple in San Francisco on April 20 has tickets for $25, $250, $1,000 and $2,500, the Chronicle said.
