This doesn’t exactly qualify as man bites dog, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's favorability rating has plummeted to a new trough. According to a new Gallup poll, only 29 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of the California Democrat, down from 36 percent in May and the lowest rating since she became speaker in 2007,
Politico reports.
Among independents, only 21 percent of respondents have a favorable view toward Pelosi, while 58 percent have an unfavorable view. And even among Democrats, 22 percent view her unfavorably. Pelosi has almost matched the lowest favorability rating Republican Newt Gingrich received as speaker – 24 percent in 1997 – and may soon break it.
"Pelosi's image has gone from bad to worse in recent months, with independents, in particular, growing more critical of her," Gallup officials said in a release. "Her resulting 2-to-1 negative to positive image presents a challenge for congressional Democrats.”
