Romney's Key ’08 Supporters Hesitant

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (pictured) has placed at or near the top of polls for potential Republican 2012 presidential candidates. But an ominous sign has emerged for him: several Republican bigwigs who supported his presidential campaign in 2008 aren’t on board now, Politico reports.

romney, supporters, hesitantFor example, former Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, whose endorsement of Romney in 2008 was seen as a key factor in launching his campaign, is undecided this time around.

“I’m listening to all the candidates and have not made any decision,” Gregg tells Politico. “It’s one of the more open fields I’ve seen over the years.”

Other 2008 Romney backers who are undecided include two key players in the early primary state of South Carolina: Sen. Jim DeMint and Gov. Nikki Haley.
