Santorum: Wisconsin Protesters Act Like Drug Addicts

By    |   Tuesday, 22 February 2011 12:13 PM EST

Former Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Rick Santorum, a likely candidate for president next year, has harsh words for public union protesters in Wisconsin who don’t like GOP Gov. Scott Walker’s proposal to curb their collective bargaining rights. “They are acting like their drug is being taken away from them,” he said at a speech in Spartanburg, S.C., the Spartanburg Herald-Journal reports.

Santorum also has strong criticism for Democrats and Republicans who support entitlement programs, most recently the new healthcare law. “What these folks are in Washington is no better than a drug dealer,” he says. “They give you a subtle narcotic to make you feel better as you do worse.”

The former Pennsylvania senator has made 10 visits to South Carolina, an early presidential primary state, in the past two years.
