Al Gore Leaves Car Running, Pollutes Sweden

Sunday, 31 October 2010 08:54 PM EDT

Climate crusader Al Gore did his part to warm the planet last week, leaving his car idling for an hour as he gave a lecture on sustainable development in Sweden, according to the British Daily Mail. While there is no word on just how big a carbon footprint he left behind for the Swedes to clean up, the former vice president did ask his distinguished guests to take public transport to minimize their own CO2 emissions.

al,gore, car, running, sweden, warming, daily, mailGore spoke at the School of Business, Economics and Law in Gothenburg, Sweden on Wednesday and arrived in a rental car from the airport but did not shut off the engine.

The huge faux pas exposes him to European prosecution. Swedish law prohibits – for environmental reasons - any car engine being left running without its driver for more than 60 seconds. The fines for breaking that law are severe but it appears Gore has not been fined.

On this occasion he was accused of 'stupidity and hypocrisy' by Marc Morano, Executive Editor of the Climate Depot website. The Nobel Prize-winning Gore is the author of “An Inconvenient Truth,” a best-selling book and hit documentary on the threat of global warming.
