New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is traveling the country this election season, supporting candidates of all political stripes who are dedicated more to cooperation than confrontation. Bloomberg's
effort on behalf of moderates puts him at odds with the tea party movement, which has tapped into voter anger to b
ecome a national force, reports The New York Times.
According to the Times, Bloomberg is supporting a variety of candidates, including Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, California Republican gubernatorial hopeful Meg Whitman and Rhode Island independent Lincoln Chafee, who is running for governor.
Bloomberg likens the tea party movement to a fad that will burn itself out on voter anger.
“Their anger is understandable," Bloomberg told the Times. "Anger, however, is not a government strategy. It’s not a way to govern.”
