Leftist websites such as HuffPost blare headlines like “Bigot Brigade” when writing about Donald Trump. And Republicans like Marco Rubio are no different.
Rubio, for example, has said it’s “immoral” to ban Muslims from gun ranges, even when individual Muslims have acted in belligerent ways around the gun ranges.
Not to mention that gun ranges are private property, and owners should decide who may enter and who may not. Rubio has also trotted out the tired cliché that our issue is not with Islam, just with terrorists.
This is political correctness at its most incorrect — in perfect lockstep with Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.
Let’s get one thing straight: Challenging Islam does not make you a bigot. A bigot or a racist is someone who attributes moral or character qualities to things over which one has no choice.
To assume something about someone’s character because he/she is white, black, Asian, or Hispanic constitutes racism and bigotry. To assume something about one’s ideology because it’s true, is simply an observation.
People do not choose their race. They do not choose the time or the place where they are born. But once they’re old enough to comprehend abstract ideas, such as morality or politics, they do choose their ideologies.
Most people do not choose a philosophy, per se.
They tend to default to whatever seems appropriate or accepted in their social or family environment. But a default is still a choice, and it’s a choice for which one is responsible.
People like Marco Rubio, leftist Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and certain “progressive” bloggers invite us to accept this false package deal. Either you assume that Islam has nothing to do with hatred, intolerance and violence, despite overwhelming, daily evidence to the contrary; or you’re a bigot.
But bigots blame people for what they cannot control or choose. People choose to be Muslim. And if they really are moderate in their practice of Islam, then why don’t they speak out against its excesses and brutality? In America, they have every chance to do so.
Instead, the lead spokespeople for Islam in America, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), scolds infidels every chance it gets for expressing any and all reservations about Muslims. They might as well be the public relations team for totalitarian Iran or war-mongering ISIS.
In all the hoopla surrounding Donald Trump, his off-color statements and his surprising primary victories, we’re losing sight of this presidential campaign’s main issue: How to keep America safe.
Yes, we must rebuild our military and use it more intelligently than in the past.
We have to stop the rules of engagement (under both George W. Bush and Obama) whereby soldiers are not permitted to kill civilians, even accidentally. The deaths of innocents are the responsibility of the aggressors, not those defending themselves.
We have to stop forbidding interrogation tactics that our military leaders might find necessary to prevent another 9/11 or worse from happening. We have to stop tying the hands of the brave and intelligent people we ask to protect us.
Whatever you think of Donald Trump, his comments cut right to the heart of these issues.
The fact that anti-American airheads like HuffPost and moral lightweights like Marco Rubio go crazy over these comments proves that Trump has hit a nerve, and justifiably so.
You cannot defeat an enemy without naming it. Imagine having won World War II without calling the Nazis the evil aggressors they were.
Note that America did not win the Cold War against the Soviets until Ronald Reagan openly called them an “evil empire,” and then acquired the military strength to show he meant it.
In war, morality matters, because it conveys resolve, especially when backed up by action.
In fact, you can save thousands of lives by having the courage to call things what they are. It’s the only way your enemies know you mean business.
Opposing bigotry does not make you a bigot. The anti-Western, anti-woman, anti-human mentality of anything connected with Islam is the greatest form of bigotry we have seen since the Nazis.
Let’s stop pretending that it isn’t.
