It’s time for Christian donors to pull the plug on World Vision.
Instead of sending their money to an organization that has become Christian in name only, ship it to Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse where it won’t be used to support the left’s version of the Great Commission.
Under Rich Stearn’s bumbling leadership, World Vision lurches from one public relations catastrophe to another. Just two years ago Stearns almost sank the organization when he told Christianity Today World Vision “will no longer require its more than 1,100 employees to restrict their sexual activity to marriage between one man and one woman.”
Stearns claimed the change was very narrow — like the door to Heaven — and he had the gall to say the capitulation didn’t violate biblical law. Even AP couldn’t stomach that. It called the collapse of moral direction and biblical truth, “a dramatic policy change on one of the most divisive social issues facing religious groups.”
In one fell swoop World Vision went from a Bible–believing Christian charity to the Ford Foundation with a morning devotional. (I’m giving Stearns the benefit of the doubt on the devotional.) In just 48 hours World Vision lost 5,000 individual donors, 60 churches withdrew their support and headquarters employees began resigning.
Stearns was mystified. As he sat in the ashes like Job, he mused that if he “could have a do-over on one thing, I would have done much more consultation with Christian leaders.”
Now Mohammed el–Halabi, World Vision’s operations manager in Gaza, has been arrested by the Israeli government. He’s charged with supporting Hamas by diverting most of the $7.2 million that World Vision sends annually and giving it to the terrorists.
You may be thinking that’s cheap compared to the $400 million ransom Obama just paid Iran.
While we can’t stop sending money to Uncle Sam, we can stop sending money to World Vision. Once we get past the fact money from generous Christians was allegedly embezzled by thugs who hate them, an important question arises: Why is World Vision allegedly sending money to Gaza in the first place?
Gaza is run by Hamas, a terrorist organization masquerading as a government. Hamas outsources all its civilian responsibilities to useful idiots like World Vision, so it can concentrate on the main task of killing Jews.
Even the trickle of money that reached Gaza residents is simply money Hamas won’t have to spend on civilian government responsibilities. If the allegations are true, every World Vision dollar frees up a Hamas dollar for terror support.
World Vision issued a statement categorically denying the charges and assuring donors the Gaza programs are subject to regular audits.
Of course there’s a big difference between an audit done by PricewaterhouseCoopers here in the states and a once–over by DeathToTheJews Partners in Gaza.
The central question is, Why is World Vision sending money to a country still at war?
How much aid did Christians send to the German people while Hitler was still in charge?
The Gaza situation isn’t a civil war like Sudan where the people are caught in the middle. The people in Gaza voted Hamas into power! This is the government the people wanted.
Another reason to stop sending money to World Vision is it betrays the overwhelming strong orthodox Christian support of Israel. Instead World Vision has adopted the left’s view of Israel as an illegitimate apartheid state that oppresses the “suffering Palestinians.”
The World Vision website parrots that view when it complains: “Home demolitions and evictions by Israeli authorities continue. Israeli checkpoints, road blocks, and the separation wall impede and restrict movement within the Palestinian territory.”
That whine conveniently leaves out the fact the homes are demolished because they belonged to terrorists and the roadblocks and anti–terrorism wall are only there because Palestinians would rather try to kill Jews than agree to recognize Israel and make peace.
This is it. Time to call a halt. If you want to make a contribution to an organization run by leadership that is this slippery, disingenuous and incompetent, I suggest sending a check to Congress.
