LaPierre: Obama Out to Erase Second Amendment

By    |   Saturday, 11 February 2012 07:38 AM EST

Should President Barack Obama secure a second term as president it will “break the back of the Second Amendment” and excise the right to bear arms from the Constitution, the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre tells Newsmax.TV.

The executive vice president of the NRA, in an exclusive interview at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, said the GOP candidates for president are all solid in their support of the Second Amendment.

Story continues below video.

“People have to keep in mind out there that if President Obama gets one more term it will break the back of the Second Amendment in this country,” LaPierre said. “He is out to erase the Second Amendment from the Bill of Rights, excise it from the Constitution of the United States. This is the most dangerous election of our lifetime if you are a supporter of the Second Amendment. And the truth really is if he gets reelected we will go to our grave mourning the freedom that will be lost.”

When asked if there was any legislation in Congress that concerned him, LaPierre said, “I worry every day.

“I spent 30 years looking around corners spotting threat and not being spun and the fact the NRA has done that is why we still have our freedoms the way we do today. They could have all been lost like England, Canada and Australia.”
On other issues, LaPierre said:

--That trying to get information out of the White House and the Justice Department in the Fast and Furious congressional investigation was like “pulling teeth.” He said the administration “concocted a scheme” to prove that drug cartels were getting guns from the United States in order to pass more gun legislation.

--That gun ownership was at an all-time high “because Americans love their freedom. It’s one of the great benefits of American freedom, that law abiding people in this country can protect themselves. It’s one of the strengths of our country.”

--That “the Second Amendment is a metaphor for freedom. You’re not free if you can’t protect yourself.”
