Billionaire real estate developer Donald Trump said if he decides to run for president he will self-fund his campaign and will call on people from Wall Street to fix America's trade issues with other countries.
"I could straighten out this country and make it great again," Trump said Tuesday on Fox News Channel's
"On the Record with Greta Van Susteren." "I could make this country so prosperous you wouldn't have to cut Medicare and Medicaid."
He called the people running things now "grossly incompetent" and said he would call on his friends — and enemies — on Wall Street to straighten things out.
"I know who they all are. I know the best ones," Trump said. "I would put one in charge of China. China has no chance. I would put one in charge of Japan. You see what Japan is doing now. Japan is cutting their currency way down" and undercutting American companies.
"China, Mexico, Brazil. Everybody beats this country. When was the last time you saw something good happen to our country?" he asked.
He said his own wealth is an advantage for self-funding a campaign, but added that his disadvantage is not being a politician.
"I don't want to be a politician," he said. "All they do is run for office. They give nothing up. … I think the people are tired of politicians because, again, all talk, no action, nothing gets done."
He told Van Susteren he expects to make an announcement around June, and "people are going to be very surprised at what the decision is."
