Outraged at
the slaughter of Ethiopian Christians by Islamic State (ISIS) militants, the son of famed evangelical preacher Billy Graham is demanding the United States "halt all immigration of Muslims" from any countries "that have active terrorist cells."
The Rev. Franklin Graham, who heads the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, also wants the government to take "immediate military action" to crush ISIS.
"We should make sure our government and the current administration recognizes Islam for the danger it is, and that they are doing all they can to work against it,"
Graham writes in a Facebook post Monday.
"Out government needs to immediately look at immigration reform to halt all immigration of Muslims from countries that have active terrorist cells — the threat this poses to our nation is huge and could end up costing thousands of lives in the future if we don’t act now."
He adds the second-most important thing the government must do is "take immediate military action to defeat ISIS."
"The influence of radical Islam is spreading, not diminishing," he writes, urging supporters to write lawmakers in Congress "to express your concern and outrage — and ask them to take action."
Graham's call to action — first reported by
CNSnews.com — comes as American Christians are being
urged to wear the color orange – either on a ribbon or as part of their clothing – to focus attention on the targeting of Christians around the world.
On Sunday, Pope Francis also called on the world community to take action, telling people, "don't look the other way," and extending his condemnation of the killing of Christians that began earlier this month.
On Good Friday,
the Pope had prayed: "We see in you [Jesus] our persecuted brothers, beheaded and crucified because of their faith in you, before our eyes ... often with our complicit silence. ..."
