When Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis was put in jail last weekend for refusing a government order to issue same-sex marriage licenses, it showed Americans how Christianity is under attack, GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said Tuesday.
"I think people need to wake up and realize that the people of faith in this country are genuinely under attack," the former Arkansas governor and Baptist minister told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" program. "This is not about giving certain people their rights. It's about denying others theirs."

On Monday, Davis returned to work and agreed to a stopgap measure that allows her deputy clerk to issue the licenses while leaving her name off them, and Huckabee said on Tuesday he feels "very strongly" about the issues her arrest brought up.
"Who's next?" he said. "Is it your pastor? Is it your Christian school administrator? If you don't bow down to this really amazingly new and hastily put together definition of marriage, then does that make you a bigot?"
Huckabee had offered to trade places with Davis when she was put in jail and said Tuesday the implementation of the Supreme Court's ruling on same-sex marriage "is really far-fetched."
In addition, while there are some who say Davis should step aside, "people forget she was elected under a Kentucky constitutional provision, voted on by 75 percent of the people, that clearly defines what marriage is," said Huckabee.
He also pointed out that Davis is just one of hundreds of officials nationwide who has refused to grant licenses, but Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear "decided to play hardball with her and let her just go swinging at the end of the rope of the judge, and the judge, in one of the most amazing overreaches I've seen, actually put her in jail for six days."
