McCain: Netanyahu Has Right to Be Angry With Obama

By    |   Sunday, 26 February 2012 10:50 AM EST

Sen. John McCain lambasted President Barack Obama’s approach to tensions between Israel and Iran, insisting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s anger is justified.

The Obama administration leaked to the media the reason for a U.S. national security adviser’s trip to Israel as a quest to persuade the country not to attack Iran, the Republican senator and 2008 Republican presidential candidate told Candy Crowley on CNN’s “State of the Union” today.

McCain alleged that the leak weakened Israel’s leverage against Iran and further strained U.S-Israeli relations.

“I think the prime minister has every reason to be upset,” McCain said. “I can understand why relations are in very bad shape right now.”

Also on “State of the Union,” McCain and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said they don’t anticipate a brokered Republican National Convention in August.

They also predicted that expect Mitt Romney will fare well in presidential primaries in Michigan and Arizona on Tuesday.

“I’m confident Mitt will do well Tuesday night,” said McCain, who has endorsed Romney.

Graham, who has not endorsed a candidate, said of Romney: “I think he’s going to win both states.

“He’s getting better and better,” Graham said. “Our front-runner Mitt Romney really has sharpened his skills.”

Graham acknowledged that the candidates have been “bruising each other up,” and McCain characterized the GOP debates as “mud-wrestling,” but both said they expect a Republican to win in November.

“I like our chances,” Graham said. “We just need to get the primary behind us.”
