Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani asked questions about Hillary Clinton's health because she has not appeared at press conferences to discuss her handling of classified information.
In an opinion piece for USA Today, Giuliani wrote, "The reason I raised the issue of inadequate health disclosures is because Secretary Clinton has been hiding from press scrutiny, and Americans are wondering why."
The New York Republican and Trump supporter said the press has allowed Clinton to skip answering questions directly, while Trump has allowed such interviews.
"Clinton has not held a press conference in 270 days, and too many in the news media have allowed her to get away with it. During that same period, Trump has made numerous public appearances, held press conferences and participated in interviews with reports spanning the political spectrum," Giuliani wrote.
The closest Clinton has come to a public press conference, Giuliani said, was an appearance with police chiefs in cities that are "Democratically controlled" and she did not address subjects such as the Clinton Foundation or her handling of classified emails.
"This seemed out of place for a major party presidential nominee," Giuliani added.
He noted the reports of Clinton's poor health and says he "did not come to a conclusion on this matter; I simply asked people to draw their own conclusions . . .
"I hope Secretary Clinton is perfectly healthy."
Giuliani wants the press to fulfill its obligation to provide more information to the public.
"I feel that I have performed a public service if I can motivate the press to fulfill its responsibility to get the public the information it deserves," he said.
Clinton made light of her health during an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," telling Kimmel the rumors of her health must be part of a "wacky strategy — just say all these crazy things and maybe you can get some people to believe you."
