Suffolk Polls Pulls Out of Fl, Va, NC — Declares GOP Win

By    |   Wednesday, 10 October 2012 12:11 PM EDT

As presidential polls across the nation swing in Mitt Romney’s favor, one survey taker has already called three battleground states for the Republican.

David Paleologos, director of Suffolk University’s Research Center said he has pulled his pollsters out of Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia as all three look set to go to Romney.

“We’ve already painted those red," Paleologos told Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly. “We’re not polling any of those states again. We’re focusing on the remaining states.”

Story continues below video.

In the handful of post-debate polls in the three states, Rasmussen Reports and WeAskAmerica had Romney up by two and three percentage points respectively in Florida, while Gravis Marketing had him up by nine points in North Carolina. However Public Policy Polling put Obama up by three points in Virginia.

Paleologos said the movement towards Romney in the three states was “overwhelming.” Obama was in particular trouble in Florida, where even before last week’s presidential debate he was only up by 46 percent to 43 percent over Romney.

He described that as “a poor place to be” for an incumbent, adding that supporters of 10 fringe candidates on the ballot in the Sunshine State overwhelmingly had Romney as their second choice, meaning they were likely to vote for him if they did not want to waste their vote.

Of other battleground states, Paleologos said Romney’s best chance was in Colorado, but he has a new poll out on Thursday in Nevada which could change things.

And he said Iowa is Obama’s best hope, as those requesting early ballots — therefore likely to have voted before the first debate — were largely registered Democrats.

Paleologos said his current count on Electoral College votes had Obama up by just nine votes, 257-248 for Romney.
