One person is dead and six are injured after a shooter opened fire in San Antonio at a large shopping mall, ABC13 reported.
Romana Lopez, a spokeswoman for San Antonio police, confirmed that police on Sunday were at Rolling Oaks Mall. The incident was first reported at 3:26 p.m. and at least 28 units had responded to the mall, ABC13 reported.
"What we have here is a robbery gone really, really bad," San Antonio Police Chief William McManus told reporters at the scene.
Two people robbed a Kay Jewelers store, McManus said, then ran, where they encountered two people who tried to intervene.
"One of those citizens was shot by the suspect, the other citizen who tried to intervene had a conceal-carry license, and he shot the suspect," he said. "The suspect was then transported. The second suspect, when the shooting started, he ran through the mall in the other direction shooting as he ran, and our understanding right now is that we have six other victims."
The person killed was one of the citizens who attempted to stop the robbers, the police chief said.
