America's Youth Misery Index Spiked 36 Percent Under Obama

A measure of how unhappy America's youth are spiked by nearly 40 percent during President Barack Obama's eight years in office.

The Youth Misery Index is calculated every year by Young America's Foundation and takes into account unemployment, student loan debt, and the national debt per capita.

The data shows this figure reached an all-time high of 113.4 this month, a 36 percent jump from when Obama took office in 2008.

According to the numbers, 14.7 percent of America's youth are without work, the average student loan debt upon graduation is $37,173, and the debt per capita is $61,549.

"President Obama has done his young supporters a remarkable disservice by running up the national debt at an incredible rate while failing to adequately address the student loan crisis," Young America's Foundation president Ron Robinson said.

"Young people are increasingly conscious of the Left's inability to offer practical solutions to the problems they face every single day."

The Youth Misery Index stood at 83.5 at the start of Obama's first term.

Young voters supported Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders for president, but when he lost the Democratic nomination to Hillary Clinton, they failed to turn out in force on election day and support her — she earned 5 percent less of the millennial vote than Obama did four years ago.

Sanders is now calling for a "new approach" for future elections that will capture all voter demographics.
