The sequel to Al Gore's Academy-Award winning climate change documentary sputtered at the box office this weekend, The Hill reports.

"An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power" opened two weekends ago but has only so far earned a little over $1 million, picking up $900,000 during the Aug. 4-6 timeframe and finishing 15th at the box office. Gore's first movie, "An Inconvenient Truth," was released in 2006 and made nearly $50 million.

Gore had urged his followers to pack movie theaters to "show Donald Trump and the other climate deniers in the White House that the American people are committed to climate action – no matter what they do, say or tweet!"

Trump in June announced he would pull the United States out of the Paris agreement, a move that signaled the president would not "come to his senses," said Gore.

The sequel has received stellar reviews from critics, and Paramount said it will expand the movie to show in over 500 locations next weekend.
