Tuesday, 12 February 2013 10:09 AM EST

There he goes again.

On Monday, N.J. Gov. Chris Christie was in Beverly Hills “courting the left-leaning California business community” and liberal Hollywood types for cash to help get re-elected this year.

Christie was the speaker at a $3,800 a ticket luncheon for him at the posh Beverly Hills Hotel.

Media and entertainment figures turned out, including, Allen Shapiro, former CEO of Dick Clark Productions, Richard “Skip” Bronson, head of US Digital Gaming, and popular “Modern Family” actress Sofia Vergara.

U.S. Digital is an online gaming company, according to the New York Post.

The paper noted that “within hours of the fundraiser,” Trenton lawmakers had indicated they will push through an online gambling law. Christie has indicated he will support the law subject to several conditions, including special taxes.

The paper said other attendees included “Los Angeles office landlord Dan Emmett, former Disney Executive Vice President Gary Wilson, and Mandalay Entertainment CEO and Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Peter Guber.”

On Tuesday, Christie is heading to Silicon Valley, where Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg will host the New Jersey governor at his home for a fundraiser. Zuckerberg supported President Obama in the last election.

Christie won plaudits from liberals across the country during the last election, strongly praising Obama for his leadership in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Pundits said it acted as a de facto endorsement of the president just days before the election, helping Obama win by wooing undecided voters.

Running in the heavily blue Garden state, Christie has re-positioned himself as a maverick, independent Republican.

In the past two months he excoriated House Speaker John Boehner for failing to compromise with President Obama and strongly condemned the NRA for not banning assault rifles and mentioning Obama’s children in a TV ad. Christie has been a proponent of gun control.

“I think we need to have a large, national discussion ... and gun control has to be part of it, too," Christie said soon after the Newton, Connecticut shooting. Christie noted that New Jersey has the second toughest gun control statutes in the country.
