The negative coverage of President-elect Donald Trump on CNN is leading to conflict inside the news network, according to a new report.

The Washington Examiner cites CNN sources who say things are getting out of hand.

"CNN has always pledged to hold Trump accountable and that's what we should be doing," a source told the Examiner. "Since the election, CNN has out MSNBCed MSNBC. In the long term, that's a dangerous place to be."

Trump complained throughout his campaign the media did not treat him fairly. During a gathering of the broadcast media's elite at Trump Tower earlier this week, Trump reportedly lashed out at CNN for its coverage of him.

Since Trump won the election on Nov. 9, CNN hasn't let up on its criticism of him. As the Examiner points out, CNN has tried to make Trump supporters who are paid contributors to the network look bad through either who it pairs them with on the air or headlines about their comments.

Anchors are also getting into the mix. On Tuesday, Wolf Blitzer repeatedly pressed Republican National Committee spokesman Sean Spicer on why Trump has not come out "more dramatically" to disavow the support he's received from neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups.

"You've asked me eight times, the same question. I've told you what his position is. That's not his focus," a clearly agitated Spicer told Blitzer, according to video of the interview posted to Mediaite.

Another CNN source told the Examiner it's clear there is "certain targeting of certain people" within the company, and "this kind of targeting isn't fair by their own employer."

Trump held a lengthy Q&A session with The New York Times on Tuesday and addressed several topics, including how he felt about the Times:
