Dick Morris, the Democratic strategist credited with reigniting former President Bill Clinton's political hopes in the mid-1990s, is warning that President Barack Obama is implementing an agenda to destroy two-party rule in America.
Morris' new book
"Power Grab — Obama's Dangerous Plan for a One-Party Nation" is published by Newsmax's Humanix Books. It outlines what Morris sees as the president's attempt to turn the United States into a "Banana republic ruled by one party by putting the Republican Party out of business."
"What he really wants to do is stack the deck to assure permanent Democratic control over the country – a one-party democracy, like Mexico had and Japan has had," Morris said Thursday on Fox News Channel's
"Hannity."
Everything Obama does must be seen through that lens, Morris said, including why Obama wants open borders and stronger labor unions and opposes photo IDs for voting. It also explains why he wants judicial confirmations without a filibuster, he said.
"I believe that the entire country, me included, made a mistake in 2008 in not listening to you when you kept pushing the connection between Bill Ayers and Barack Obama," Morris told Hannity. "We all dismissed it as guilt by association. Now it's time to listen."
Hannity said that even conservatives warned him he was ruining his career in during the 2008 campaign, when he said Ayers, a founder of the domestic terrorist group Weather Underground, was a mentor to Obama during his years in Chicago and even held a fundraiser for him in his home. Obama and Ayers have denied knowing each other well.
Morris also touched on recently discovered correspondence former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had with "Rules for Radical" author and community organizer Saul Alinsky.
He said Clinton began her legal career as an intern for a communist law firm in California and was one of a group of interns who volunteered to help the Black Panthers during their trial. And, he noted, she went to work for the Watergate committee and stole documents to try to prejudice Nixon's case to make it impossible for Nixon to have a lawyer represent him in impeachment proceedings if they had been held.
Morris and co-author Eileen McGann warn in the book that America is at a crossroads.
"[W]e can choose the path of the Founding Fathers and keep a strong constitutional government that thrives on our bipartisan spirit, or opt for President Barack Obama’s dream: a nation ruled by one political party with a far-left agenda," a press release for the book reads.
Morris writes that almost all of Obama's key initiatives and agenda items have a common goal of taking power from traditional and bipartisan institutions in favor of his own Democratic Party.
Morris and McGann call Obamacare the biggest power grab of all because they say it creates a new, permanent dependency class. And they say his push for immigration reform will quickly tip the balance of power in favor of Democrats, giving them a permanent lock on the White House.
"Red" states are being pushed aside, they argue, as state-run education systems are coming under more federal control by using the controversial Common Core curriculum.
Obama also is working to assert more control over private business by granting the Environmental Protection Agency global governance in the name of climate change and is blocking energy independence, slowing economic growth and breeding more dependency.
Finally, they argue that Obama is gutting welfare reform in an effort to keep more Americans dependent on government assistance and is turning over regulation of the Internet to the United Nations.
"Obama is a left-wing president who is desperately determined to impose his radical agenda to transform our democratic government and free market economy into his socialist-style ideal before leaving office in 2016," the authors write. "He's a president who is obsessively fixated on keeping the left in permanent power by turning our two-party system into a one-party monopoly."
