Vice Media announced Wednesday it was retracting two stories that reported President Donald Trump's White House was feuding with Disney World management.
The outlet said it had found "several factual errors" in a story posted on its Motherboard site May 19, "Here's the Secret Backstage Trump Drama at Walt Disney World's Hall of Presidents." The article was archived and posted by The Washington Free Beacon.
The first post was followed last Monday by a second piece, "Behind the Scenes of Disney's Donald Trump 'Hall of Presidents' Installation," which was also archived and posted by the Free Beacon.
Both posts claimed "behind-the-scenes drama and internal machinations" about whether Trump would have a speaking role in Disney's Hall of the Presidents," the Free Beacon reported.
In an editor's note, the outlet said sourcing and errors triggered the retraction.
"After a thorough investigation into the sourcing of two stories, 'Here's the Secret Backstage Trump Drama at Walt Disney World's Hall of Presidents' and 'Behind the Scenes of Disney's Donald Trump 'Hall of Presidents' Installation,' and the identification of several factual errors, we have decided to retract both pieces," the editor's note explained.
"We are conducting a full editorial review to pinpoint how this source was vetted, and how these stories were approved and published in violation of our usual editorial workflow. We fell short of our standards, and regret the error."
The retraction comes a week after CNN retracted an investigative report that claimed Congress was probing a meeting between a Trump associate and a Russian bank. Two CNN journalists and their editor resigned in the wake of that retraction.
