Obamacare is a big scheme by unions to gain millions of new members and fill their coffers with a billion dollars in new dues, according to a new book by a professor at The Citadel.
The book, called “Shadowbosses: Government Unions Control America and Rob Taxpayers Blind,” and written by Mallory Factor, says President Barack Obama’s healthcare plan was partially a ploy by unions to organize millions of health care workers.
In the book, Factor cites a 2008 memo from Dennis Rivera of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) to the Obama transition team pledging the unions’ support for passing healthcare legislation, according to the Daily Caller.

Subsequent coordination between the SEIU and a federation of local employees show hundreds of millions of dollars were spent promoting Obamacare and a booklet published by SEIU during the 2008 election season called for outcomes mirroring the Obamacare legislation.
Factor, a Forbes columnist and senior editor of money and politics for The Street.com, also cites emails from a former federal labor staffer Don Loos: “It is clear that Big Labor is banking on the probability that all healthcare workers eventually become federal, state, and municipal healthcare employees,” Loos told Factor,
according to the Daily Caller, meaning it would make them eligible for involuntary unionization through public-sector unions.
Factor has also chaired the Economic Roundtable for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, led a 2009 Economic Summit for the U.S. House Republican Conference and Policy Committee, served on the Council on Foreign Relations, and co-founded the Monday Meeting, a meeting of elected officials, journalists, business leaders and authors.
“The government employee unions can then enlist pro-union state governments to treat these health care workers as ‘government employees,’” Factor told The Daily Caller, “and unionize them just like they unionized the care providers” themselves. “For every million additional health care workers unionized in the 27 non-right-to-work states, the unions stand to earn $1 billion in dues.”
