Spouse clubs at Marine bases must allow same-sex spouses as members, Marine Corps leaders have decided.
The Marine commandant's staff judge advocate warned in a memo Tuesday against discrimination based on sexual orientation,
NBC News reports. He cited a decision last month by the officers' spouses club at the Army's Fort Bragg base in North Carolina to deny access to the female spouse of a female Army lieutenant.
The Marine memo, issued Tuesday, said of the Fort Bragg club’s move, “we do not want a story like this developing in our backyard,” Marine Corps spokesman Capt. Eric Flanagan told NBC.
