A new poll finds that many people within America's younger generation are unfamiliar with communism and communist leaders.
The YouGov survey concluded, for example, that 80 percent of millennials did not know that communism has led to the deaths of 100 million people. And only 55 percent of this age group said communism was and still is a problem.
Other key findings from the poll:
- 33 percent are unfamiliar with former Russian leader Vladimir Lenin, while 42 percent are unfamiliar with former Chinese leader Mao Zedong.
- 15 percent have a very unfavorable view of socialism, while 38 percent said the same for communism.
- 42 percent have a favorable view of capitalism.
Russia, which is no longer communist but is ruled by former KGB officer Vladimir Putin, has been displaying signs that typically come in times of war. Putin recently recalled back to Russia top Russian officials, politicians, and their children. And talk of war is back on Russian state television.
