New York City Police officers attending the funeral of one of their own Tuesday turned their backs on Mayor Bill de Blasio in protest when he spoke.
According to the New York Daily News, officers watching the funeral on projection screens outside of the World Changers Church in the Bronx showed the mayor how they felt about his leadership when he gave a brief speech.
Just days after Officer Miosotis Familia was executed while sitting in a police van July 5, de Blasio traveled to Hamburg, Germany to protest President Donald Trump at the G-20 summit.
"The mayor is the compass for the city of New York. And unfortunately, when a police officer got killed, his compass led him to Germany rather than here on the [Grand] Concourse," Patrolmen's Benevolent Association head Patrick Lynch said, reports the Daily News.
"He should have been here with the family . . . He should have been there with us."
NYPD officers also turned their backs to de Blasio after two police officers were killed in a December 2014 ambush.
