Roughly 50,000 Somali refugees have been resettled in the United States under President Barack Obama, according to official numbers.
The figures were revealed in the wake of Monday's attack at Ohio State University, during which police said a Somali refugee drove into a crowd of people with his car and then slashed several of them with a butcher knife. Police shot and killed the man. Eleven people were wounded.
The Washington Examiner cited data from The Center for Immigration Studies that show the Obama administration has brought in tens of thousands of Somalis. And since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, 99 percent of 97,000 resettled Somalis have been Muslim.
Police are investigating whether the attack by Somali-born Abdul Razak Ali Artan, 18, was linked to terrorism. Reports say he posted comments on Facebook minutes before the attack began that were critical of the United States and its perceived treatment of Muslims.
The attack has renewed questions about America's vetting process for Muslim immigrants and others who come from countries with a terror presence.
